We Understand and We Can Help

We know deciding on a higher level of care is one of the hardest choices a parent can make.  You've likely tried many options already, and it can feel overwhelming to choose the right next step. David Levin, LCSW-C, our therapeutic placement consultant,  works with you to find the best path forward for your child or family member.

Who We Help:

Therapeutic placements are designed for teens and young adults when traditional outpatient approaches haven't been successful.

What is a Therapeutic Placement?

It's an intensive setting offering therapy and supervision, such as:

  • Therapeutic boarding schools
  • Wilderness programs
  • Residential treatment centers (RTCs)
  • Transitional programs

Choosing the right fit based on your loved one's unique needs and strengths is key.

Why Work With a Consultant?

  • Personalized Guidance: David explores and personally vets the best options for your specific situation, saving you time and stress.
  • Informed Decisions: He shares his extensive knowledge, helping you understand your choices to make the best decision.
  • Support Throughout: David guides you through every step, offering support during this difficult time.

Types of Placements (with brief descriptions):

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOPs)

  • Combines individual and group therapy, medication management (if needed), and additional therapies like yoga or art.
  • Offers 6-9 hours of treatment per week.
  • A good step up from traditional outpatient therapy.

Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHPs)

  • Provides treatment for 5-6 hours every weekday.
  • Includes individual and group therapy, medication management (if needed), and additional therapies similar to IOPs, but at a more intensive level.
  • Offers more structure and support than an IOP.

Therapeutic Wilderness Programs

  • Provides a break from everyday distractions (technology, familiar environments) for deeper focus on treatment.
  • Ideal for issues like substance abuse, gaming addiction, social anxiety, school refusal, trauma, and adoption-related challenges.
  • Emphasizes clinical care in the wilderness setting.

Residential Treatment Centers (RTCs)

  • Focuses heavily on therapy and psychiatric support, with a smaller academic component.
  • Stays often last 6-24 months.
  • Offers specialized treatment for substance abuse, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, gaming addiction, adoption-related issues, and trauma.

Therapeutic Boarding Schools

  • Combines a full academic program with on-site therapy and support.
  • Aims to prepare students academically and emotionally for their next steps, whether that's college or a career.
