Do you find yourself facing a mountain of paperwork, a pile of unanswered emails, or a disorganized room? For those of us with ADHD, starting tasks can be a real challenge. One effective strategy is to use a body double—someone who sits with you while you work. This can significantly boost your motivation and help you stay accountable for completing tasks.
Having a body double means scheduling dedicated time to have someone support and encourage you as you begin and continue working. You can set clear goals with your body double at the start of each session and they can check in with you periodically to track your progress.
The body double is present on ZOOM with the person needing support. Their presence provides a sense of companionship and support, which can reduce feelings of anxiety or distraction.
The body double's role is often passive; they may engage in their own activities quietly (such as reading or working on a laptop), providing a non-intrusive presence that helps the individual stay focused on their task.
The body double can serve as a gentle reminder to stay on task or provide encouragement when needed. Their presence can help the individual maintain motivation and momentum to complete the task at hand.
