The Chesapeake Center
The Chesapeake Career Center is here to help you find the perfect career path, especially if you have ADHD or a learning difference! Our team understands the unique challenges you might face, and we tailor our approach to your specific needs. We'll look at your goals, interests, and strengths to find a career that fits you. If you've already been diagnosed, great! We'll use that information. If not, we can provide assessments alongside career guidance. Let's work together to unlock your potential!
We offer brain-based career guidance that incorporates individualized results of neuropsychological and psychoeducational testing alongside career testing results to provide coaching uniquely suited for you.
Our goal is to guide our clients to recognize their strengths and interests and better understand careers and jobs that are a good match.
We understand our client's unique needs when choosing a career path, which is why we utilize the Highlands Ability Battery. This test instrument focuses on cognitive strengths and provides career direction, measuring natural abilities rather than disability. We integrate those results alongside those from personality and values measurements and interest testing to provide elevated personalized career coaching success with clear recommendations for both educational and career paths.
Choosing the Right College Major
At the beginning of the college journey, our career assessment provides students and families with reassurance, support, and direction. College is expensive and time-consuming. Investing in a career assessment that can guide your choice of college and your college major will likely save time and money by helping students avoid the expense and frustration of dropping classes, changing majors, and prolonging the time and cost of college.
By partnering with our coaches and taking our career assessment, you and your student will gain a much clearer idea of what they need to succeed in college and a greater sense of where they best fit in this world.
Working with one of our career coaches following a career assessment can guide them to understand what they are looking for in college and how to advocate for themselves in college and later in their career. Our career coaches can guide parents to gain a deeper understanding of what to expect when sending a neurodivergent student to college, how to support their student during college, assessing readiness to go away from home to college, and how best to support them as they transition to college.
Find Your Path, Get Ongoing Support
Career assessment and Coaching for young adults can provide the additional structure and direction needed to cultivate success. Often, young adults with ADHD, ASD, or LD face more challenges with their job search upon graduation. Our career assessment can guide young adults in navigating their job search and understanding what aligns with their interests, strengths, and values. Our coaches can then incorporate these results in supporting young adults in the planning, organization, and follow-through required to land their first job. This includes job search coaching, assistance with resume and cover letter writing, and job interview rehearsal to help clients succeed.
Support for Mid-career Adults and Adults Re-entering the Workforce
Our adult career coaching supports adults re-entering the workforce, adults who feel stalled and desire to explore workplace options that provide a better fit, and those who have entered a career for which they are poorly suited.
We make a distinction between a job change and a career change. Our first step is to help a mid-career adult better understand how their needs are not being met. In some instances, they need a similar job with a new employer due to problems with supervisors or with the workplace environment overall. In other cases, you may be happy with your employer but want to transfer to a different job or division within the company. We always start by examining what is working in your work life and trying to build on that before deciding upon a complete career change that may involve further education, income disruption, and other major life changes.
Our coaches will consider many factors when guiding a mid-career adult through workplace changes. They will consider quality-of-life factors such as work-life balance and commute, as well as clients' interests and values, to help them achieve elevated career success and overall satisfaction.
These services are provided in our main center in Bethesda, MD. Career assessments and career coaching can be provided remotely via Skype or Zoom.
